We are at a pivotal time in history. Never before was our civilization this connected, this global, and this unaware of its limitations and ignorance.

Gen Z increasingly doesn’t drink, drive, or have sex and older generations look befuddled: “Why wouldn’t they be itching to drive? Don’t they want freedom?” But we already have it. We don’t rebel because anything transgressive can already be done from the screen in our pockets. We didn’t fully understand then that billions of dollars had been poured into keeping us addicted to those transgressions across social platforms.

That's why language, like money, is not optional in a complex society. If you mess with either, society crumbles.

Languages and protocols are network phenomena. No network, no language. No peers, no protocols.

The go-to method for saying something publicly online is to step on a platform and say what you have to say. The problem is, of course, that it is not your platform. It is someone else's platform. That's why you can be de-platformed.

Building a Tower of Babel is a bad idea.

We need to be able to discuss things so that others might tell us where we are stupid. And we're all stupid.

Free speech is not optional; it is not optional because we need to be able to speak freely so that we might have a chance to think freely.

There is a reason why The Logos is sacred. It is the same reason why the First Amendment is the first, which means primary.

Which brings me to one of the things I'm currently worried about. Civilizationally speaking, we are very smart but not very wise. We are very bad at paying attention to what we're paying attention to, at least right now.

The Ancients placed a great deal of emphasis on attention. Attention is plagued by a meta-problem too, which is, of course, _what to pay attention to?_ Answering this question requires paying attention to what you're paying attention to, which is what separates a smart person from a wise one.

Thinking is what defines us, but it isn't just thinking for thinking's sake; it is thinking to figure stuff out without having to get killed in the process all the time.

If you're going too hard into a niche and only cater to those people, it could become challenging to expand outward without pissing off your current user base in some way.

Bitcoin has become a self-healing, self-sustaining network that will always persist in some way. I've always resonated with the aspects of Bitcoin being a decentralized organism. It is all-consuming. It will leech off the souls soldiers volunteer for and then move on to consume as many as possible. The community even reinforces this with a "slay your heroes" mentality. As soon as you're depleted for all you can provide, the people cast you away, leaving behind the value and time you gave up to the network. It doesn't matter what you do; it will use you, and the people will abuse you. Then, the newcomers lured into the price actions, philosophies, and "welcoming community" will rotate through and repeat.

Applesauce has matured, is optimised and very opinionated which makes it extremely useful. Being functional in nature also allows it to be very reliable. It does take some getting used to but hzrd149 (nprofile…tfpf) has published very good docs , extensive snippets and live examples . Its a fantastic library for building applications,10/10 recommended.

We are starting to build less social media and more of the other stuff on Nostr. What we have on our hands are the seeds to completely rethink the entire Internet stack, layer 2 and upwards.

A second major theme was rethinking the entire Internet stack using Nostr keys as identities that can announce, be discovered and communicate with each other without having a domain, connected to centralised DNS servers or having certificates from CAs. Audio/Video streaming & MLS was another highlight combining Nostr with other protocols like [Iroh](https://github.com/n0-computer/iroh) & [MoQ](https://github.com/kixelated/moq) .

In the end, we don't want to send sats to addresses, but to people. If nostr continues to catch on, it might turn itself into the global address book for these kinds of things, i.e., the go-to place to look up payment information of people, organizations, and other entities.

Speaking of imagination: why don't we have any spending wallets that automatically move sats to a different wallet above a certain threshold? I'm more than happy to have some lunch money in a custodial wallet, but once it's worth three months of rent, I'm not as comfortable anymore.

The enemy, whether that’s centralized platforms, financial censors, or state surveillance apparatuses, cannot ban what they never permissioned in the first place. They cannot deplatform what never required their platform for existence. This represents asymmetric resistance through architectural sovereignty.

Nostr users function identically. Every note published, every relay connected to, every interaction executed bypasses the entire legacy communication infrastructure. No corporate servers decide whether your message gets delivered.

Bitcoin identified the target: centralized financial control, permissioned systems, institutional gatekeeping over human value exchange. Strategic clarity matters, but identifying a target means nothing without operational capacity. Without boots on the ground.
